Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning clash that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51M viewers in the US, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally is the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total US viewership was 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
